Marie Schmidt will become the
new owner of the Midi restaurant in the space currently operated
by Bennett’s in Fitger’s. Midi will be completely remodeled in
October and will open in November 2007.
Midi encompasses the southern French regions of Aquataine,
Languedoc and Provence. The Midi is bounded by Spain and
Pyrenees to the south and by Italy and the Alps to the North and
East. It means Mediterranean restaurant and bar.
“It has been a long search to find someone who exemplifies the
four diamond standards required by Fitger’s”, said Scott
Vesterstein, Executive Vice President . Along with serving fine
meals in the restaurant, Midi will also be providing room
service for Fitger’s Inn, Duluth’s only four diamond hotel,
catering, banquets, dinner theatre and outdoor dining.

Marie Schmidt is of German descent and she studied
Hotel-Restaurant Management in Switzerland working throughout
Europe before moving to the United States in 1982. Her parents
owned a Hotel- Restaurant in Germany where she gained much
experience making this a perfect fit for Fitger’s.
Duluth was always a favorite place for Marie to visit and she
felt Fitger’s would be an excellent location to open a
restaurant featuring her signature recipes. Currently Marie also
operates a successful German Restaurant in Hudson, Wisconsin
“Winzer Stube” known for great food prepared in house from
scratch every day “ Simply fresh and good” . Marie and her
restaurant have been showcased twice on a national T V Show
“Rebecca’s Garden” featuring Marie’s renowned soups.
It is Marie’s goal to bring great food, extraordinary service
and ambience to her new restaurant, Midi.
Midi will be serving a Continental menu with Mediterranean
influenced cuisine overlooking Lake Superior in the historic
Fitger’s Complex.
Midi will also feature an extensive assortment of Single Malt
Scotch and a great selection of wines by the bottle or by the
glass.
